Welcome !

Welcome to all non-Dutch speaking visitors of my site!

You have landed on the website of 'Aandacht voor Aids', which means 'Focus on Aids'. 'Aandacht voor Aids' is the name of a personal campaign. With this campaign, I am trying to raise funds in order to significantly and structurally improve the situation of Aids- and HIV-infected people an children in Ghana, Africa.

My name is Cindy Noordermeer. I am a Dutch dietician and health worker and worked in Ghana as a volunteer for 2 years. I returned to Holland in May 2005 to start my Master study International Public Health at the VU in Amsterdam.

The first half year of my stay, I have been working in the 'International Health Care Clinic'. This is a small community hospital in Accra, the capital of Ghana. The hospital is mainly focused on treating the poorest people infected with Aids and HIV.

For the following 7 months, I worked on a project in Wa (the capital of the Upper West Region in the North of Ghana), the aim of which was and is to write and implement a nutritional guideline for Aids patients.
For the rest of my stay, I was back in Accra in the clinic again, and worked on several guidelines in de field of nutrition, treatment, personal hygiene, etc.
If you would like to know more about my projects, or possibilities for sponsoring, please contact me using the contact form.

As you can see, my site is for the most part in Dutch. Unfortunately, I don't have the time and means to translate my whole site in English. However, some pages are in English. If you are interested in my projects, the Aids Clinic or my work in general, you can follow the links at the top right to the pages of my site that are written in English.

Use the 'to English home' link in the column at the right to get back to this page, so you don't get lost in the Dutch.

I will be happy to answer all your questions about me, my work or the clinic by email (in English). My email address is: cindy@aandachtvooraids.nl . You can also use the mail form by clicking on the link at the right.

If you have questions or comments about this site, please use the following email address: webmaster@aandachtvooraids.nl

While reading, keep in mind that this site will not be updated anymore from november 2006. Existing and new projects will be carried out by my new Foundation: Stepping Stones for Africa. You can read all about this foundation on its website: www.steppingstonesforafrica.org.

Thanks for your visit and enjoy reading!

Cindy Noordermeer.

Fortunately, treatment of HIV/Aids is possible with ART drugs. However, the costs of the treatment are astronomical for most of the patients and therefore out of reach. Here you can read and overview of costs involved for patients coming from the Upper West Region.

About the 'Positive Living' Association, an Aids-patient suportgroup, founded by the hospital and made possible by the 'Attention to Aids' campaign.
